This presentation introduces parents and family members to Motivational Interviewing (MI) as a compassionate, evidence-based communication approach for supporting loved ones struggling with substance use. Participants will learn how MI shifts conversations away from confrontation, lecturing, and power struggles toward empathy, collaboration, and personal empowerment.
This session will focus on practical, real-life strategies families can use to reduce conflict, strengthen relationships, and encourage positive change without enabling harmful behaviors. Through discussion and examples, participants will gain tools to communicate in ways that increase motivation, build trust, and support recovery readiness.
