Pathways to Healing: Addressing the behavioral Health needs of our Adolescents and Young Adults

CE Hours 2

About this live event

Pathways to Healing: Addressing the Behavioral Health Needs of Our Adolescents and Young Adults is a comprehensive training designed to deepen understanding of the unique mental health challenges faced by today’s youth. This session explores adolescent and young adult brain development, emphasizing how this critical stage of growth influences decision-making, emotional regulation, and risk-taking behaviors. The training also examines the profound impact of early trauma on brain development, highlighting how adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) can alter neurological pathways, increasing vulnerability to mental health struggles and substance use. As mental health concerns among teenagers continue to rise in today’s fast-paced and high-pressure society, the session will address factors contributing to this crisis, such as social media, academic stress, and environmental instability. By recognizing these developmental and societal influences, participants will gain insight into why adolescents and young adults are at an increased risk for substance use and other maladaptive coping mechanisms. The session will equip attendees with trauma-informed strategies and evidence-based approaches to support young individuals on their path to healing and resilience.

Learning Objectives

  • Explore how brain maturation affects decision-making, impulse control, and emotional regulation, and how these factors contribute to mental health challenges.
  • Identify how adverse childhood experiences and trauma influence brain development, increasing susceptibility to anxiety, depression, and substance use.
  • Learn trauma-informed and evidence-based approaches to effectively support adolescents and young adults in managing mental health struggles and building resilience.
